WE WANT ALTERNATIVE VOICES

We strongly request that for every pro-war voice represented, we want a pro-peace anti-war voice. With this in mind we’ve compiled two helpful lists:

15 Ideas for Stories

1. Cover local peace events (see attached list).

2. Sponsor and air live a public meeting with a balanced panel of speakers.

3. Education/Training for News Staff on Islam and Middle East Politics

4. Interview Japanese-Americans who were alive during WWII and dealt with racism, harassment and the internment camps (see Making Waves…Marge Taniwaki on list of organizations)

  1. Interview people from the Middle East to get their reaction to the likelihood the U.S. will bomb and invade there.

6. Interview veterans of past wars who are not pro-war. The Colorado Campaign (see above) can get you in touch with these people.

  1. Do a live-call or video-feed with a Coloradan in the middle east. The Colorado Campaign can help you.
  2. Sponsor community speak-outs / forums around the metro area. Have a short introduction or speaker and then allow people to voice their feelings. We need more dialogue in our communities.
  3. Interview students (high school and college) who are organizing for peace and tolerance on their campuses.
  4. Interview young children about their views on what happened and how they feel about the possibility of war, how conflicts should be dealt with.
  5. Interview anti-gang youth about how hard it is to promote stopping violence when the country is about to retaliate violently.
  6. Interview experts on international diplomacy about how the perpetrators of the attacks could be brought to justice.
  7. Interview immigrants about how increased suspicion will affect them.
  8. Interview civil libertarians about the danger of scaling back on our freedom.

15. Interview local Iraqi-Americans who were in Iraq during the Persian Gulf War. What’s it like to be on the receiving end of the bombs?
