Tips on living a better life
Realistically there are two types of illness. Acute illness is one from which you will recover, either by the powers of your body or the wonders of modern science. Chronic illness, however, is an illness that will not go away. There is no cure or solution to a chronic illness so you are left to cope with life as best you can and to make improvements wherever possible. This article considers the best ways to manage chronic or serious illnesses to alleviate pain, reduce symptoms, and to improve your life wherever and however possible.
The first step is to realise that a chronic illness is a serious one. To put it into perspective, a chronic illness will greatly increase the level of your life insurance quotes and will make funeral cover more expensive. It is not, however, the end of your life. As long as you recognise that you have a serious condition then you can do things to improve your situation.
Medicines can be prescribed and life changes will help to improve your situation, but it is important to follow suggested practices properly and effectively. A doctor can tell you how to get better but they cannot force you to make life changes, which will prolong your lifespan.
Once you have realised the significance of your newly discovered situation, it is time to take responsibility for yourself. Becoming self-managed is very important because this will allow you to take control of your life once again. Self-management simply means that you take control of your own medicines, diet and exercise. This is an important responsibility to take because it is the only thing which will turn your situation around and allow you to live a long and healthy life.
Self-management requires that you take a serious look at your life and determine what it is that needs to change. In everyone’s life there is something that could be healthier and you should work with your doctor to set health goals for you to achieve. Tie these goals in with your treatment plan and be sure to understand the connections between actions and results.
Look at your life and discern the areas which really need to change. If, for example, you eat a cake a day, then this will need to stop. If you never do any exercise, then this will need to become a goal. Choosing an area to improve upon is a great way to identify ways to make yourself better, but it is essential that you are honest with yourself.
Instead of setting your goal as doing more exercise, determine exactly what you are going to do. Whether it is a 30 minute walk a day or a 30km bike ride, you need to set yourself a specific target which you can either meet or fail to meet. Having loose targets will simply mean that you put it off and neglect to exercise properly.
Plan for problems that may stop you from exercising. If, for example, you have to work early on a Wednesday, work out a way that you can incorporate a walk into your lunch break. Do not wait for problems to occur, plan to solve them in advance. Remember that walking in your home is as good as walking around a park in terms of exercise.
Talk to your doctor about how they can help you to improve your efforts. If you have any issues then tell them because they may be able to help you.
