EVERY Monday in Denver NEW
Weekly Peace Vigils to Protest US Occupation of Iraq
Starting Monday, January 3rd
Noon to 1pm
Broadway & 16th Street Mall (Denver)
Friends: Many of us believe that the war on Iraq is wrong. We believe that the US troops' presence in Iraq is one cause of ongoing violence there, and of increased risk of terrorism worldwide. We believe that the best and only real way to support US troops is to bring them home safe now. Therefore, we plan to conduct a weekly peace vigil in Denver to give tangible witness to our desire and call for a just peace in the Middle East.
Starting on Monday January 3, 2005, each Monday from noon to 1pm we will conduct a silent vigil for peace at the intersection of Broadway and the 16th Street Mall, on the triangle island across Broadway from the Mall shuttle turnaround. We will hold signs, banners and flags, and silently witness for an end to the war in Iraq. One or two of us will pass out leaflets and invite passersby to join us in this witness.
We will conduct additional peace vigils/demonstrations on the occasions of the re-inauguration of George W. Bush [January 20], and on the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq [March 19]. We invite all who share in the desire for an immediate end to this war to join us on Mondays from noon to 1pm, and to bring friends, signs, and leaflets to the vigil each week.
This message is being sent to you as an invitation and a call to witness. Please respond immediately to this e-mail call to the vigil, via e-mail, giving your name and information on groups that you would plan to organize to participate. Please tell us the number of persons [yourself and others in your group] that you believe will be able to participate on a weekly basis -- we will need that information to inform the City of our plans.
Please also distribute this information in your church or organization's newsletters and announcements, as soon as you can. And let us know of other groups and individuals who may want to be informed.
